Las Amapolas is that place you are yearning for and hard to find. Tucked among multimillion dollars homes in the Mata Grande Area of Ambergris Caye. Just a hundred feet north from the infamous John McAfee’s island house are these two small beach houses standing majestically on a sandy beach overlooking the spectacular barrier reef. We are only thirty minutes away on a golf cart from San Pedro Town, which many believe is the place that inspired Madonna with her song La Isla Bonita.
Las Amapolas is everything you dream of an island vacation. White sandy beach, blue-green waters, coconut palm trees, starlit nights, and the gentle breeze of the Caribbean Sea. It’s quiet and peaceful, it’s romantic, it’s laid back just the way the Caribbean used to be. It’s not a resort, it’s a vacation home rental. The casitas are big enough for a king-size bed with a private bathroom, mini kitchenette, and a balcony. Wake up early and see the most beautiful sunrises, take a walk along the beach and let the waves caress your feet, or take a siesta on a hammock while listening to the sounds of the sea. On a moon-lit night out your balcony lights and just take in the serenity of the night and be grateful for having the opportunity to be living the best moments of your life in this little piece of paradise on earth.
Las Amapolas is a little sanctuary we have lots of trees in our backyard that help feed the birds. Right before sunset, you will hear the noisy chachalacas coming home to rest and the green parrots (seasonal) perched way up high on the trees. Occasionally we get visits from the squirrels that love to eat the sea grapes. Right in front of your casita lies the world’s second-largest barrier reef in the world and one of the best areas to snorkel on the island. Take a kayak and go discover the underwater world of Ambergris Caye. Fishing from the end of the dock is also possible. If you are lucky you might catch your dinner for the evening. There is a fire hearth and grill on the property that you are welcome to use.
Las Amapolas is in a family estate so occasionally you will meet our family members at the property. Take time to chat with them. We were all born and raised on the island so we can share with you many of the island stories or recommend places to visit and things to do. We speak fluent English and Spanish so that should make it easy to get into a conversation. My brother Robby that lives with his family within the property has two friendly labradors, Cash and Tango. He is a great fisherman and would be happy to take you out fishing and or snorkeling. He is also an artisan so you might want to see his beautiful pieces of art. If you happen to see him wandering along the property or enjoying the night on the beach under a coconut tree join in, make yourself comfortable, bury your toes in the sand and learn from a man that knows the island best.
